HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Monday, December 8th is a Holy Day of obligation in the United States. Mary, under the title of Immaculate Conception, is the patroness of the United States and this Solemnity is always observed as a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass schedules for area churches are as follows:
Vigil: Monday – Abbott – 6:00 p.m.; Hillsboro – 7:00 p.m.
Feast Day: Tuesday – Abbott – 6:00 p.m.; Penelope – 7:30 p.m. Hillsboro – 8:00 a.m.
SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND: Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have spent their lives ministering to others, often for little, if any, pay. Their sacrifices now leave their religious communities without adequate savings for retirement and health care. Your gift to the collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious next weekend Dec. 12-13, supports the day-to-day care of roughly 35,000 senior religious, providing necessities such as prescription medications and nursing care. Please give to those who have given a lifetime.
CHRISTMAS CHOIR PRACTICE: There will be Christmas Choir practice after Mass on Monday, December 7th and 14th.
CHRISTMAS RECONCILIATION: Father Ouseph will be available to hear confessions at Abbott on Monday, December 14th at 6:30. There will be only one priest available. (Area Reconciliation times: Hillsboro – Thursday, December 10th at 6:30 p.m.; Penelope – Friday, December 11th at 7:30 p.m.)
MINISTER SCHEDULES: New schedules for Lectors, Altar Servers, Ushers, and Eucharistic Ministers will be coming out in December. Lectors need to have received the sacrament of Confirmation. Altar Servers need to have received the sacrament of First Holy Communion. Head Ushers need to be an adult. Training is available for all these roles. If you are new and wish to be added or need to make any changes, including a new contact number, please include it on the information sheet located on the back table. Please put these in the collection basket by December 6th. Hope to see some new faces.
KJZT JUNIORS: The next meeting of the KJZT Juniors will be Sunday morning, December 13, at 10:30 am in the hall. Following the meeting, the juniors will perform at the parish Christmas party. Junior members, please dress in holiday colors and wear a Santa hat if you have one.

CHRISTMAS SOCIAL: The Annual KJT, KJZT and KC Christmas Meeting and Social is scheduled for Sunday, December 13th. Meetings will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed with a Christmas program presented by the KJZT Juniors, lunch and a visit from Santa. The KJT will provide the main course. Families who are planning to attend the lunch are asked to bring a generous dish consisting of a vegetable, salad or dessert. In order for the KJT to adequately plan for the main course, please sign the list in the back of the church by Sunday, December 6th if your family will be attending. Everyone is welcome to attend.
KC MEETING: The KC meeting for the last quarter of the year will be held in the Mother’s Room on Wednesday, December 9th after the 6:00 p.m. Mass.
COLLECTION ENVELOPES: The 2016 collection envelopes are available to be picked up. They can be found on the table at the back of church. Also, if you need a statement showing the total of your yearly contributions that were made through your church envelopes, please contact Agnes Timmons after the first of the year.
