SECOND COLLECTION: Thank you for your generous support of the Collection for the Church in Latin America which strengthens the faith of our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean.
HAMBURGER SUPPER FUNDRAISER: The CCD Program will hold a Hamburger Supper on Wednesday February22nd in the parish hall from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The class is selling a hamburger plate that includes a burger with all of the trimmings, beans, French fries, tater tots, and ice tea for the price of $6.00. Plates ‘to go’ will also be sold, that evening. Proceeds from the sale will benefit religious education. The public is invited to come and enjoy this delicious meal. Your generosity is welcomed and appreciated.
APPRECIATION MEAL: This is the last weekend to RSVP to the Appreciation Meal on Feb. 19th. We will gather at 6:00 p.m. and eat dinner at 6:30 p.m. It is important that you put your RSVP form in the collection basket or register on the sheet on the back bulletin board by Feb. 5th.
COUNCIL MEETINGS: The Finance Council will meet on Monday, February 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The Pastoral Council will meet immediately after, at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
ADULT FORMATION: The Adult Formation Class will meet on Wednesday, February 8th from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The topics include: The Mass as the Source and Summit of the Christian Life; Why is Sunday Mass an Obligation?; The Mass as Rooted in Scripture and Tradition; The Liturgy of the Word and The Liturgy of the Eucharist; How to Prepare for Mass; The Difference the Mass Makes in Our Lives.
RCIA: Class will meet on Sun., Feb. 5th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The topics include: Christ Instituted the Sacrament of Penance; The Sacrament of Mercy; Why Must I Confess My Sins to a Priest?; The Effects of the Sacrament of Penance; Preparation and How to Make a Good Confession; What is the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and What are the Effects?; Who can Receive Anointing of the Sick?; The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and Preparation for Death.
FOR ALL 6TH – 8TH GRADE IHM PARISHIONERS: The Annual Middle School Youth Rally will be held on Sat., Feb. 25th, at Nolan Catholic High School. This will be an “all day” event (10 am – 8 pm), and we will leave the IHM Church parking lot at 9 am and return by 10 pm. The cost is $20 per child. If you are interested in attending, please sign up on the sheet located on the table in front of the Mother’s room by Sun., Feb. 12th. Please contact Annette Ballew at 254-749-4151 for any questions.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: Adoration will take place every Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. and ending with Benediction at 5:30. Please sign the sheet at the entrance of the Church to ensure that someone is available to adore.
PARISH DATABASE: The parish is making every effort to get a listing of all the Catholics who live within our parish boundaries. If you are a parishioner or are new to the parish and have not completed a parish registration form, please take one from the back table. Also, if you are aware of any homebound individuals, please take them a form and assist them in completing and returning it. They can be mailed to the church at 601 W. Houston, Abbott, Texas 76621 or dropped in the collection basket.
HILLSBORO INTERFAITH MINISTRIES: HIM is a county wide entity which provides food and clothing among other things to those less fortunate. Monetary donations, food, and clothing can be delivered to the distribution center located 214-A East Elm Street in Hillsboro (across the street from the closed Wells Fargo). KJZT JUNIORS: The next meeting of the KJZT Juniors will be Sunday, February 12 immediately following Mass. Juniors will meet in the Smid Center and need to wear their turquoise t-shirts.
FRIED CHICKEN DINNER: The Church of the Nativity of the BVM in Penelope is having their annual Fried Chicken, Sausage, & Dressing Dinner with all the trimmings on Sunday, February 26th. Serving begins at 11:30 a.m. Adult and plates to go are $10.00 and children plates are $6.00. All are invited.
CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS: Hillsboro CDA Court #2143 will meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the parish hall at Our Lady of Mercy Church. All ladies of the parish are invited.
SCHOLARSHIPS: KJZT is now accepting 2017 scholarship applications. Written requests for applications must be made by the student in one of the following ways: Mail: P. O. Box 18896 Austin, TX 78760-8896; Fax: (512) 444-6887; Email: info@kjzt.org. To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be a member in good standing for at least one year. Scholarships are available to high school graduates who are planning to attend college or current college students. The Fraternal also offers scholarships to members who are planning to attend or are currently attending a technical or vocational school full time. Members who are active participants in the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas Junior Division and its programs of activities sponsored by an officially registered society can apply for additional scholarships each year for up to three years after the initial year has been completed. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 10, 2017.
