PRIEST CARE FUND SPECIAL COLLECTION:  We will take up a special collection for the Diocesan Priest Care Fund which helps to cover the costs of priests who are either in special or convalescent care and who have exhausted medical coverage and personal resources. Please be as generous as you can.

SANCTUARY FLOWERS: The flowers on the altar this weekend are given in celebration of the baptism of Miles Douglas Holcomb, son of Michael and Katie Holcomb.

CONGRATULATIONS: Christy Marek of our parish and Ty Brantley were united in holy matrimony on Saturday, July 29th.  God’s blessings on this union.

SPAGHETTI DINNER: Our Annual Spaghetti Dinner will be held on August 27th. The meal consisting of spaghetti and meat sauce, salad bar, garlic bread, dessert and drink is from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Adult plates and plates to go are $9.00 and $6.00 for children under 12. Please invite your family and friends to come out and enjoy a delicious meal and fellowship. Parishioners whose last names begin with A – O are asked to please bring a dessert to be served with the meal. Also, if anyone wishes to make a cash donation towards the meat or other ingredients, please put it in a specially marked envelope and place it in the collection basket.

BAKE SALE: The KJZT will be having a Bake Sale in conjunction with the Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, August 27th.  Proceeds from the bake sale (including 50% matching funds from the State Office) will be given to the West Museum.  This will fulfill the requirements of the People Helping People Community Project.  All KJZT members are asked to please donate an item to the Bake Sale.  Thank you for your support.

STROKE SCREENING: Representatives from Stroke Scan will be available to set up appointments for stroke screenings for anyone who is interested.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: Adoration will take place every Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m. and ending with Benediction at 5:30.  Please sign the sheet at the entrance of the Church to ensure that someone is available to adore.

HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION: August 15th is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Declared a dogma of faith in 1950 by Pope Piux XII, this Holy Day of Obligation celebrates Mary being taken up into Heaven body and soul at the end of her life.

Mass attendance on this day is required and will be available as follows:

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS: Hillsboro CDA Court #2143 will meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the parish hall at Our Lady of Mercy Church.  All ladies of the parish are invited.

PARISH DATABASE: The parish is making every effort to get a listing of all the Catholics who live  within our parish boundaries. If you are a parishioner or are new to the parish and have not completed a parish registration form, please take one from the back table.  Also, if you are aware of any homebound individuals, please take them a form and assist them in completing and returning it. They can be mailed to the church at 601 W. Houston, Abbott, Texas 76621 or dropped in the collection basket.

HILLSBORO INTERFAITH MINISTRIES: HIM is a county wide entity which provides food and clothing among other things to those less fortunate.  Monetary donations, food, and clothing can be delivered to the distribution center located 214-A East Elm Street in Hillsboro (across the street from the closed Wells Fargo). Also, the center can always use extra volunteers.  To get more information about contributing or how to become a volunteer, please contact George Harris at 254-580-2717.

FESTIVAL: The Church of the Assumption in West will have their Parish Festival on Sunday, August 13th at the KC Grounds. A home-cooked Fried Chicken (Baked Chicken also available) and Sausage Dinner will be served beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Adults and Plates-to-go $10.00 will be available. Auction, Bingo and Water Games (bring your swim suit) will begin at 12:15. A raffle will be held at 4:00 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
